Emile Smith-Rowe took his tally for the 2021-22 season to nine goals on Boxing Day as Arsenal cruised past Norwich City, winning 5-0. Alexandre Lacazette has heaped praise on his Arsenal teammate, on Instagram.
Smith-Rowe is becoming renowned as somewhat of a super sub. The 21-year-old has now failed to start for Arsenal in the Premier League since scoring in the 3-2 defeat to Manchester United, at Old Trafford.
Missing the game against Everton, he was an unused substitute in the 3-0 win over Southampton. Since then, he has come on as a sub against West Ham, Leeds and Arsenal – scoring in all three, despite a combined 44 minutes.
While he might feel harshly placed on the substitutes bench, it seems to be doing the trick for the Gunners. Smith-Rowe is shining when used, and now has an impressive eight goals and two assists in 17 league games.
In all competitions, he has nine in 20. The Arsenal wonderkid posted on Instagram after netting Arsenal’s fifth against Norwich – tapping in Nicolas Pepe’s deflected shot.
Lacazette message to Smith-Rowe: Arsenal star best from the bench?
Smith-Rowe’s form is easil deserving of a start. But has it got to the point where he is impressing so much from the bench, that he is becoming even more effective as a substitute?
Could it be, that Smith-Rowe might not actually start matches because he is a more-effective weapon from the bench? The more he shines as a sub, the more Mikel Arteta will be tempted to use him sparingly.
Lacazette, though, was full of praise for Smith-Rowe on Instagram – posting a five-word comment on the England star’s Instagram. He told Smith-Rowe not to change.
