Alexandre Lacazette has applauded Eddie Nketiah on social media after the striker scored for Arsenal in their draw with PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday night.

Lacazette replied to the 24-year-old on Instagram after the Gunners rounded their Champions League group-stage campaign with a draw in the Netherlands.

It was Eddie Nketiah who broke the deadlock in Eindhoven. The striker did superbly after some brilliant work from Reiss Nelson just before the break.

Nketiah found the bottom corner to leave the goalkeeper with no chance. It was an outstanding finish on a night where the England international would have sensed that he had an opportunity to impress.

It proved to be Nketiah’s first goal in the Champions League. And following the game, he took to social media to look ahead to the knockout stages.

And one of those to reply to Nketiah was Lacazette…

Striker takes his chance to send message to Mikel Arteta

It was the kind of finish which may have made Mikel Arteta sit up and take notice, particularly when you consider how good PSV have been this season, as well as Arsenal’s most recent result in the Premier League.

Gabriel Jesus had a poor night at Villa Park as Arsenal were beaten 1-0 – despite creating more than enough chances to win the game.

And the Brazilian has only found the back of the net on two occasions in the top-flight this season.

Nketiah has struggled to prove that he can be as influential as Jesus. However, he does have an impressive ability to put himself in the right position for when a chance may come his way.

He may have a lot more to do before he manages to push ahead of Jesus in the pecking order. But it would be absolutely no surprise if Nketiah got his fair share of important goals between now and the end of the campaign.
