Alexander Isak situation is bad, but this Chelsea star who threatened own goals to force a move is worse

Alexander Isak is well and truly burning his bridges at Newcastle.

The Swede did not attend the PFA awards ceremony on Tuesday night as he continues to push for a move to Liverpool – even releasing an honest statement on his situation at Newcastle.

TBR Football understand Newcastle are furious about the statement – albeit not surprised.

As Alexander Isak goes on strike at Newcastle, it is nothing in comparison to what William Gallas did at Chelsea back in September 2006 as he pushed for a move to Arsenal.

When William Gallas threatened to score an own goal to force through Chelsea exit

Astonishingly, the Frenchman wanted to leave Chelsea for Arsenal so badly, the Blues claimed in an official statement that he even warned them he would score an own goal if selected.

In a lengthy statement which oozed anger at the situation, Chelsea wrote: “Chelsea believes it is important for our supporters to be made aware of the full facts regarding William Gallas and the lack of respect he showed to the fans, the manager and the club.

“The issue was purely one of money, despite his public comments that he wanted a new challenge, to play abroad and so forth. These were just a smokescreen to cover up the fact he was hawking himself to the highest bidder…He initially refused to play against Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final last season in an effort to force an increased contract offer.

“He went on to threaten that if he was forced to play (in the 2006/07 opener against Manchester City) or if he was disciplined and financially punished for his breach of the rules, that he could score an own goal or get himself sent off, or make deliberate mistakes.”

As messy as the situation involving Isak has become, we highly doubt the Sweden international would ever sink to these depths to force a transfer away from Tyneside.

Alexander Isak and his agent Vlado Lemic are now in a very difficult spot

Newcastle want £150m for Isak – with Liverpool only bidding £110m so far – and if the Reds do not increase this offer, it would make for an even more sour situation.

The Newcastle No.14 has already missed one Premier League match – a stalemate at Villa Park in which Eddie Howe watched his side squander several chances in the absence of a natural striker.

Newcastle are also struggling to sign a new striker in the background to replace him, as Brentford stand firm on Yoane Wissa.

Liverpool have already spent £69m on Hugo Ekitike – who Newcastle wanted – as well as £116m on another attacker in Florian Wirtz, so Arne Slot is seemingly not as desperate to sign Isak as the striker himself is to move to Anfield.
