Liverpool will be hoping for another stellar showing from Trent Alexander-Arnold against Leroy Sane on Thursday.
The Reds travel to the Etihad Stadium on Thursday to take on second place City, where a win will see them extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to nine points.
That would be a concerning deficit for Pep Guardiola, who knows a slip up against Jurgen Klopp’s men will make retaining the title.
A lot of the pre-match talk has been about Kevin De Bruyne, who could return for the hosts after a minor muscle injury that ruled him out against Southampton.
He is, of course, a big player for the Citizens but so too is Sane, who has been in some decent form of late.
Alexander-Arnold must replicate Champions League showing
Sane is likely to start against Liverpool after being afforded a rest against Southampton and Riyad Mahrez failing to take his chance.
He’ll come up against Alexander-Arnold, who enjoyed two fantastic games in the Champions League against the German last season.
The Englishman gave his opponent nothing and nullified his threat down the left.
Alexander-Arnold will definitely be full of confidence going into the game knowing how well he has contained Sane in the recent past.
If he can win his individual battle again, and stop Sane from adding to his haul of six Premier League goals and nine assists, then Liverpool will have a great chance of taking points oftheir rivals.
