Alex Scott raves about Arsenal ‘star’ during Burnley loss; slams Willian

Alex Scott claimed on Match of the Day 2 that Willian has been below-par and suggested that Arsenal could do with a few more players like Kieran Tierney.

The former Arsenal Women star was a pundit on the show after the Gunners had slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Burnley.

Mikel Arteta’s men stay in 15th place in the table and are now closer to West Brom in 19th than they are to Tottenham at the top.

The Gunners were starting to gain a foothold in the contest when a moment of madness from Granit Xhaka saw them reduced to 10-men.

Things went from bad to worse for the Gunners when a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang own goal gifted Burnley a big three points.

Arteta continues to pick players who aren’t necessarily performing well and Scott chose one man for praise and one for criticism after the latest result.

She told Match of the Day 2: “When you look at today’s game, who’s the star for Arsenal? It’s the young left-back Kieran Tierney. I’m so disappointed in Willian, the number of times I saw him pass the ball and not even move.”

Tierney was signed for a relatively cheap £25 million and earns £80,000-a-week at the Emirates Stadium.

He gives every ounce of blood, sweat and effort within himself on a weekly basis. Arsenal’s form is certainly not through a lack of trying on his part.

Then you have Willian.

He was seen as a tried and tested option for the Gunners, signing on a free transfer from Chelsea and pocketing a cool £192,000-a-week.

The trickster registered three assists on the opening day of the season at Fulham but since then his form has gone downhill.

At 32 he’s at the wrong end of his career and won’t have a deal of sell-on value.

Arsenal have a proud history when it comes to younger players and 23-year-old Tierney should act as a model for any future additions.
