In comments reported by the London Evening Standard, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has admitted that he was not happy with his performance in Liverpool’s dramatic win over Arsenal.

The Reds are into the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup after an incredible tie against the Gunners. The two sides played out a 5-5 draw in 90 minutes before Liverpool edged the penalty shootout.

It was a game defined by incredible attacking play and some dreadful defensive errors. And perhaps no player summed up the bizarre nature of the game better than Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The former Arsenal man scored an absolute stunner during the second-half. He also provided the assist for the first goal. However, he also made an error before the visitors’ equaliser.

And Oxlade-Chamberlain admitted that he did not think he was good enough during the contest.

“Quality-wise, I am not too happy with my performance to be honest. I wasn’t great on the ball and not near my own personal level of where I want to be,” he said, as reported by the London Evening Standard.

“I put in a good shift and run a lot. I watched the boys of a weekend and I know what it is about here. You have got to be at a really high physical level to go and put in a performance like that.”

The 26-year-old may not be happy with his display. But there is no doubt that he has made a significant impact since returning from injury.

He bagged a stunning brace in the Champions League win over Genk. And he has now made it three goals in his last two games.

It is no surprise that he has not been flawless since his return. But the encouraging signs are definitely there. And it should be particularly exciting for Liverpool supporters that he seems determined to do so much better.
