Liverpool cruised to victory in the Champions League last night, sweeping aside Atalanta in Bergamo.

The Reds ran out 5-0 winners to take nine points from nine in a ruthless and efficient performance against Gian Piero Gasperino’s side.

This was supposed to be Livepool’s toughest group stage match, but the Premier League champions made easy work of Europe’s new darlings.

Diogo Jota has taken most of the headlines in the aftermath of the game, hitting a wonderful hat-trick .

The Portuguese’s fine start means he’s surely now well in contention to become a regular starter.

Curtis Jones was handed another start and did well, and in recent games Xherdan Shaqiri has also made an impact.

Certainly, Liverpool are looking strong right now and it could mean that one man in particular now has a lot of work to do to get himself back in the picture.

In the time he’s been out, options such as Jota, Jones, Shaqiri and Naby Keita have all made impacts, meaning the 35-cap England international has major work to do to get back into the picture.

He should be back fairly soon, but one wonders if the £35 million signing from Arsenal will be permitted a loan move in January if he struggles for minutes – which is a real possibility given how many options Jurgen Klopp has.
