Tyler Morton saw out the entirety of Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Porto on Wednesday night – and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has praised the teen.
Days after making his Premier League debut as a substitute in a 4-0 win over Arsenal on the weekend, Morton was included in the starting XI.
It was a comfortable win in the end for Liverpool, though they did have to ride their luck in the first half. Otavio missing a golden chance for Porto.
Morton was on hand to stop another goal – the no.80 reading a cut-back from Mehdi Taremi and clearing. Thiago’s gorgeous strike made it 1-0.
Then, picking the ball up deep inside his own half, Morton pinged a well-placed ball into the path of Mo Salah. The Egyptian cut inside and scored.

WhoScored say 83% of Morton’s passes were successful, also winning three headers and two tackles. Oxlade-Chamberlain gave an eight-word verdict.
The ex-Arsenal man, who himself lasted 82 minutes before being replaced by James Milner, said: “Did really well with the experience around him.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain on Morton: Competition for Liverpool star?
Morton has enjoyed an excellent week, making a Premier League and a Champions League debut in the space of a few days. A real talent.
What does the future hold for the England Under-20 ace? Well, he has enormous competition ahead of him in the midfield pecking order.
But he will have shown Jurgen Klopp he is capable to be thrown in against tough opposition – his last two games coming against Arsenal and Porto.
Can he provide cover, and competition, for Fabinho? Right now, no. But over the course of the next season or two, why not.
