Laurent Koscielny is now public enemy number one in the eyes of most Arsenal supporters.
The defender refused to travel on the club’s pre-season tour of the US amid reported transfer interest from teams in Ligue 1.
The latest is that the 33-year-old has agreed personal terms with Rennes, although Bordeaux remain keen.
Koscielny still has one year left on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium and the club are holding out for a fee for the 2010 Arsene Wenger signing.
There is a feeling that Koscielny is nearing a messy exit from the club, which many would never have foreseen given his professionalism over the years.
And the situation is made to look worse in comparison to one Tottenham Hotspur player in a similar situation.
Across the city, Toby Alderweireld also has one year remaining on his current contract.
The ace has a £25 million release clause which expires later this week.
It looks as though Spurs are going to be keeping the Belgium international against the odds.
But so far, the 30-year-old has been a model professional in his situation, and has put Koscielny somewhat to shame.
He is working hard and getting on with things at Spurs in pre-season and is frequently using his social media channels to document that for supporters.
The former Ajax and Southampton man has also indicated (Telegraph) his focus is on Tottenham ahead of the new season. Whatever happens this summer, his exemplary conduct has to be applauded.
