This week has seen West Ham United linked with two striking options for the summer. It was reported by CM Journal this week that the Hammers could sign the Mali international this summer, if they meet his £31 million price-tag.
They have also been linked with Nice attacker Alassane Plea. According to Sky Sports, amongst others, West Ham have made a £27 million bid for the 25-year-old.
Whilst West Ham are expected to spend well this summer you can be fairly confident that West Ham will not be signing both of them.
So who should they go for?
In terms of last season, it is hard to say. Plea scored 21 goals in 49 games last season whilst also bagging seven assists. Marega scored more, with 23 and had one more assist, with eight.
So there is hardly any room for separation there.
What you would say is that the French league is perhaps at a marginally higher standard than that of the Portuguese. Plea also has age on his side, being three years younger than the Porto star.
Marega is a bullish and powerful attacker. But Plea just has a little bit more about his game. His dribbling and craft are more beguiling and he certainly has more versatility to his play. Dare say it, there is a touch of the Dimitri Payet’s about the attacker.
If West Ham have to decide between the pair, then Plea is the man they should bring to the London Stadium.
