Alasdair Gold shares what he’s been told about Harry Winks’ Spurs future

Football London journalist Alasdair Gold has claimed on his YouTube channel that he has been told that there is no chance of Harry Winks leaving Tottenham Hotspur during the January transfer window.

Winks’s future has been a talking point for much of the campaign. The 24-year-old has made just three Premier League starts this season.

He has fallen out of favour with Jose Mourinho putting his faith in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Moussa Sissoko.

The Daily Mirror reported at the weekend that he is open to leaving temporarily in January. And it was suggested that Everton are keen to take him or Dele Alli on loan.

However, Gold has claimed that he is not expecting the England international to go anywhere while the window is open.

“With Winks, I’ve been told there’s no chance of him going next month at all,” he told his YouTube channel. “I know that will disappoint some people who aren’t Winks fans.

“But if you look at it logically, essentially you’re one injury away to Sissoko and Hojbjerg from Winks coming into that team and playing quite regular football.”

TBR View: Spurs taking smart decision with Winks stance

His lack of game-time must be frustrating for Winks. He is looking to book his ticket into England’s squad for Euro 2020. And he would surely love nothing more than to have a key role in a Tottenham side that is flying under Mourinho.

Tottenham look set to make a ruthless decision on his future. Winks – who earns £50,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – may be concerned about how much he is going to play over the coming months.

But as Gold notes, Spurs need the depth. They look set to be involved in the title race this season. And they also have the knockout stages of the Europa League ahead. So letting Winks leave would be a gamble.
