Alasdair Gold shares what agents have told him about Pedro Porro to Tottenham

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has now shared what agents have said about Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Porro

Antonio Conte will be eager to upgrade his options at right wing-back this month, with the likes of Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty not quite providing the necessary quality in the position.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for Porro throughout the transfer window, after facing the defender in the Champions League this season.

Fabrizio Romano claimed just yesterday that the 23-year-old is keen on the idea of joining Conte’s side

Spurs are currently facing a stumbling block over the Spaniard’s release clause, which Gold says is worth around £39.4 million.

The journalist has provided an update on Tottenham’s interest in the Sporting ace and claims he’s been told by a ‘couple’ of agents that their interest could be a smokescreen for a different signing.

What agents have said about Pedro Porro to Tottenham

Speaking in his latest YouTube video, Gold explained that Sporting are holding firm on demanding the player’s release clause be paid in full.

The Football.London journalist says Spurs will look to compromise with the Portuguese club and attempt to pay in instalments, rather than paying the full fee up-front.

And Gold shared what football agents have told him about Spurs’ interest in Porro.

“It’s interesting. Why I say it’s interesting, the Porro thing, is because I’ve spent this week speaking to loads of various agents connected with various aspects of the transfer window,” he said.

“I’ve had some of them, a couple, have suggested that they think Porro is a smokescreen for another transfer. But I’ve also had other ones say ‘no, Porro is Spurs’ main target’.

“So it will be really interesting to see which way it goes because if Sporting are going to stand steady on this release clause, it will be interesting to see if it tests the resolve to see if Spurs do shake the desire to do everything in instalments or whether they don’t value him at that price, that may be the case as well.”

It’s no secret that Tottenham are lacking quality on the right-hand side, even after bringing in Djed Spence over the summer.

Porro would go a long way to solving their attacking issues on that side of the pitch and he’s been in fine form for Sporting this season.

The former Manchester City man has already bagged two goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions this season. He’s actually created more goals than all of Tottenham’s options at right wing-back combined this season.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham manage to get this one over the line this month as it feels like a crucial couple of weeks ahead for the club.

The signings of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski transformed their season last time out, and Conte will be hoping for additions that make a similar impact before the window shuts.
