Spurs still want to sign Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu this summer, and his representatives believe a deal will be done.

That’s according to Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold, who claimed today that those close to the deal had expressed a confidence in a transfer for Tomiyasu to Spurs being completed.

Japanese defender Tomiyasu emerged on the Spurs radar a few weeks ago, with Fabio Paratici said to be a big fan. But since then, Spurs have moved to sign Cristian Romero for big money. That deal is expected to be announced today.

But speaking on his weekly Q&A for Football.London this week, Gold confirmed that a deal for Tomiyasu is very much still on.

“Tomiyasu is a player Paratici likes and Spurs have held talks over him before. He’s still away at the Olympics with Japan, albeit with an ankle injury, and some people involved in the deal on his side told me a few days ago that they were confident he would become a Tottenham player this window,” Gold said.

“Let’s see whether they now push that through. It’s not huge money we’re talking about in relation to the Romero deal.”

Paratici putting his stamp on proceedings

Spurs fans were a bit skeptical about the appointment of Paratici but you have to say, he’s doing the business so far.

Romero’s signing is a big one. But alongside the signings of Gollini and Bryan Gil, Spurs’ squad is suddenly looking stronger by the week.

Spurs fans will be buoyed by seeing Tomiyasu still being linked. If he does arrive, as well as Romero, then the back line is well set for Nuno Santo this term.
