Financial Fair Play is, once again, having an impact in the Premier League, and clubs are having to get creative.
Indeed, loans with obligations to buy are becoming more and more regular, while swap deals are another way around FFP regulations.
Tottenham Hotspur know the value of a swap deal. They’ve just negotiated a deal that will see Radu Dragusin and Djed Spence swap places at Genoa – albeit on a temporary basis, and another potential swap could be on the cards.
Indeed, Sevilla’s Loic Bade has been linked to Tottenham in recent days, and speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Alasdair Gold has suggested that a swap deal for Bryan Gil could make sense there given Sevilla’s long-standing admiration for the player.

Swapping Gil for Bade could make sense
Gold shared his verdict on the £12m man and a swap for Gil.
“When I saw the Loic Bade stuff, I immediately thought ‘oh does that mean that Bryan Gil can go there and they sort something out?’ I do worry for Bryan Gil in terms of gametime, with Werner coming in on his more favoured time as well, that gametime will dry up as well,” Gold said.
Could work
Swap deals are very rare in football, but this is a deal that could work well for all parties.
With Timo Werner coming in, Gil is now way down that pecking order at Spurs, and while they’d probably have to top this deal up with some cash, Bade could be just what the doctor ordered in north London.
Of course, whether or not both clubs are able to reach some sort of agreement on this one remains to be seen, but don’t be shocked if the idea of sending Gil back to the south of Spain is mooted if negotiations around Bade begin to take shape.
