Alasdair Gold says he’d be shocked if £13m player joined Tottenham this week

The transfer window closes on Thursday evening, and Spurs do still have a bit of work to do.

While Tottenham have already signed two players this month, they could probably still do with another midfield player.

Indeed, after spending weeks chasing Conor Gallagher, Spurs’ desire to bolster their midfield is clear for all to see.

Another midfield player who has been linked with a move to Tottenham is Atalanta’s Ederson, but, by the sounds of things, this deal won’t be going ahead this week.

Indeed, according to Alasdair Gold, speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, it would be a massive shock if Ederson were to join Spurs before the end of the window.

Ederson arriving would be a shock

Gold spoke about the £13m man.

“I know there’s been talk about Ederson at Atalanta, the Italian media have been speaking about him, but he’s more of a defensive midfielder, I’d be surprised at that, it may just be securing a young player for years to come, but you really need a number eight,” Gold said.

Late twists possible

Ederson arriving at Tottenham before the end of this transfer window would be a shock, but let’s be real, if ever there was a time for a shock, it’s deadline day.

Indeed, we’ve seen so many times over the years that the unexpected can happen in the final hours of a transfer window, and with Spurs said to be keen on Ederson, you can’t rule this one out.

Of course, it’s currently unlikely to happen, but if Tottenham do ultimately decide that they need a new midfielder through the door before the end of the window, then perhaps a late swoop for Ederson could be on the cards.

Regardless of it being unlikely, this is a situation to keep half an eye on.
