Alasdair Gold says Emerson Royal does not want to leave Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal hasn’t lived up to all the hype in North London, but the Brazilian isn’t ready to walk away just yet.

That’s according to Alasdair Gold, who revealed in his Q&A on Football London that there is interest from clubs in two different countries, but Emerson isn’t keen to consider that at this moment in time.

Alasdair Gold says Emerson Royal does not want to leave Tottenham

When Spurs signed Emerson from Barcelona in the summer of 2021, there was a lot of excitement. Many even felt the Brazilian was a much better signing than the right-back Arsenal brought in at about the same time – Takehiro Tomiyasu.

That now looks like a ridiculous statement as Emerson has had a really difficult time as a Tottenham player. He has made numerous mistakes over the last 18 months, and Spurs are desperate to bring in a new man at right wing-back now.

Journalist Dean Jones revealed last week that Tottenham have made Emerson available for a transfer in this month’s transfer window. Gold, however, has now claimed that the defender is not keen on moving on at all.

He said: “As for Emerson, there’s interest from clubs in both Spain and Italy about signing Emerson in a loan-to-buy deal during the January transfer window, but that interest is yet to materialise into a concrete offer to Tottenham.

“The player is not particularly keen to move on and it will be interesting to see how the dynamic works if Spurs really push for a new right wing-back.”

Emerson still has three-and-a-half years left on his contract.

TBR View:

It seems pretty clear at this point that Conte does not really fancy Emerson anymore.

The Brazilian is still only 23 and has a lot of time to improve, but what we’ve seen over the last 18 months has shown he’s simply not at the level required to take Spurs to the next level.

Matt Doherty has been used ahead of him in recent games, while Tottenham are pushing hard to sign Sporting Lisbon right-back Pedro Porro in this month’s transfer window.

A move away seems like the best thing for all parties here, but whether Emerson will change his mind in the coming days remains to be seen.
