Football London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has been really impressed with Pape Matar Sarr in training.
The 20-year-old joined Spurs from Metz for £14.6 million in 2021’s summer transfer window (Sky Sports). He was sent back to the French side on loan, and although he returned to the club last summer, he’s yet to make his senior competitive debut for Conte’s side.
That, however, could change very, very soon.

Alasdair Gold says Antonio Conte has been really impressed by Tottenham’s Pape Matar Sarr
The World Cup break came as a blessing to many young players as they were given an opportunity to feature heavily in first-team training under the watchful eyes of their managers.
Sarr has trained with Spurs’ first-team on numerous occasions before, but he has never quite been able to do enough to convince Conte to give him his senior debut in a competitive game.
That’s still yet to happen, but if Gold is to be believed, Conte’s really impressed with the 20-year-old in training, and that could help him get his first-ever game for Spurs in the very near future.
The journalist said in a video on his YouTube channel this week: “I heard a couple of days back that Conte has taken a real shine to Pape Matar Sarr.
“He’s had this time to work with him and he’s actually really been impressed – not only with his versatility but also with his ability to take on instructions and just his all-round ability.
“Keep an eye, I think we’ll start to see him getting some minutes – this is my hope. I’m hoping, especially with Sarr, maybe we get to see some minutes.”

TBR View:
Conte has always chosen experience over youth and we can’t see that changing anytime soon.
However, Sarr’s performances in training will do his chances no harm, especially with an FA Cup clash against Portsmouth coming up in exactly a week’s time.
That would be a great opportunity for Sarr to make his debut – even if it’s not from the start. He is a fine prospect and occasional chances at the top level will surely help him develop.
The January transfer window is officially open now, and it will be interesting to see if Spurs will consider loaning Sarr out if a suitable offer lands on the table in the coming days.
