Alasdair Gold makes intriguing claim about Spurs' top manager targets
Alasdair Gold has suggested on his YouTube channel that Tottenham Hotspur are getting there in their search for their next manager, while he also offered an interesting clue in regards to what connects their top targets.
Spurs are still working to find Jose Mourinho’s successor. Of course, they were quickly dealt a big blow with top target Julian Nagelsmann agreeing to join Bayern Munich next season.
It was not long until Brendan Rodgers and Erik ten Hag were ruled out of the running also. And since then, it has seemingly been incredibly difficult to predict who may come in ahead of next season.
A host of names have been linked with the post. And while Gold did not name any names in his latest update, he did suggest that the Tottenham hierarchy may be edging closer towards an announcement.
Intriguingly, he also suggested that all of the leading candidates have one thing in common.
“We’re not there yet, we’re getting there,” he told his YouTube channel. “What I would say obviously, as I’ve told you in the past, the club’s original intention I was made aware was that they wanted to try and announce someone before the end of the season.
“As I said in recent weeks, that was a hope, a hope that unfortunately, with reality, and all the fall-out from what happened with the Super League, has become less and less realistic as it goes on. And what I understand is that their main candidates for the role are employed, are currently employed by other clubs.”
TBR View: Benitez and Rangnick amongst names who now look unlikely
There are a few names that can seemingly be ruled out of being main contenders for the post. The Daily Mail recently claimed that Ralf Rangnick and Rafa Benitez were candidates.
However, with both managers currently out of work, it would appear that neither is currently under serious consideration – judging by Gold’s comments.
That may encourage some of the Spurs fans. Appointing someone like Rangnick would have looked a real gamble. Meanwhile, Benitez can be something of a divisive character.
It also has the potential to be a bigger statement should they lure another manager from another club.
Tottenham fans will also be pleased to hear that the club may be getting there in their search. There is a lot of anxiousness about, given the importance of the club’s next appointment.
They arguably cannot afford to get their next move wrong.
