Alasdair Gold confirms ‘terrific’ Tottenham youngster has picked up an injury and needs a scan

Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold does now have some unfortunate injury news concerning a youngster at the club.

Injuries have been the story of the season so far at Spurs, with Ange Postecoglou’s early progress ravaged by some unfortunate blows.

It’s now such a reward for Tottenham to have the likes of Micky van de Ven and James Maddison back in their side – players who quickly became crucial after their signings.

And although Spurs did add Radu Dragusin to their back line earlier this month, they are still slightly short of bodies at centre-back.

Ashley Phillips is now on loan at Plymouth Argyle, meaning Alfie Dorrington is the most natural centre-back beyond the senior trio, even if Ben Davies is capable of stepping in.

But with that in mind, and the progress of the player himself, Spurs fans will be disappointed to hear Dorrington has now picked up a hamstring injury.

The 18-year-old started for Tottenham’s under-21s against Bristol City last night in a 1-0 win, but had to leave the pitch with an issue.

Gold has now shared an update on that injury, confirming that the ‘terrific’ Tottenham youngster could be out for a significant period.

Sharing his update on X, Gold said that Dorrington had a similar reaction to van de Ven when he pulled up against Chelsea last year.

Gold said: “Another hamstring injury for Spurs’ list this season as Alfie Dorrington pulled up last night for the U21s.

“Understand he should hopefully be going for a scan today. Didn’t look good when it happened, similar reaction to Micky van de Ven after suddenly stopping during a sprint.”

Of course, this isn’t the news Spurs fans will want to hear regarding any of their players, let alone one thriving with Wayne Burnett’s youth side.

Perhaps Tottenham do still retain hope that the injury isn’t too serious, an update Gold will probably provide in time – but it’s certainly a frustrating one.

However, looking at the first team and the final few days of the transfer window, it’s thought that one player would be very keen to join Postecoglou’s project.
