Alan Smith says there are three Arsenal players who would get into The Invincibles team

Arsenal’s current squad are absolutely incredible, but they’re certainly not the best Arsenal squad we’ve ever seen.

Indeed, while this side play some mesmeric football, 20 years ago, the Gunners were arguably the best team in Europe as they went a whole season unbeaten in the Premier League.

The Invincibles are perhaps the most iconic team in Premier League history, and according to Alan Smith, only three players from the current Arsenal side would get into The Invincibles team.

Indeed, taking part in a Q&A session on Reddit, Smith said that there are only three players who would get into The Invincibles in this current Arsenal crop, claiming that William Saliba and Bukayo Saka would get a game, while Martin Odegaard would play when Dennis Bergkamp was injured.

Alan Smith says three Arsenal players would get into The Invincibles team

Smith shared his verdict on the current squad.

“Which player(s) from the current Arsenal squad do you think would get minutes in the Invincibles era?” Smith was asked.

“Saliba, Saka and Odegaard (when Bergkamp was injured!)” Smith wrote.

Harsh

We can’t help but think that this is a bit harsh.

Smith wasn’t asked who would start for The Invincibles, he was asked who would get minutes in the side, and we have to think that there are a few more players who would get into Arsene Wenger’s squad.

Declan Rice would be a fantastic rotation option for someone like Gilberto Silva, while Gabriel Martinelli would add another dynamic down that left wing as an impact sub in place of Robert Pires.

Ben White vs Lauren is also probably a much closer debate than many will admit too.

Arsenal’s Invincibles were an incredible team, but this crop of players aren’t too far behind – they only picked up six fewer points last season.
