Alan Smith raves about Arsenal trio after 3-3 draw with West Ham

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith raved about a trio of Gunners stars yesterday, with particular praise for Alexandre Lacazette.

The North Londoners found themselves 3-0 down after half-an-hour against West Ham United but roared back to claim a point.

Goals by Jesse Lingard, Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek ensured a rampant start by the Hammers.

Own goals from Soucek and Craig Dawson and a late Alexandre Lacazette equaliser gifted the Gunners an unlikely point, however.

Afterwards, Smith took to Twitter to praise Martin Odegaard and Calum Chambers but reserved special praise for the hero of the hour.

Lacazette has really started to silence his critics during the current campaign.

Despite being linked with a move away from the Emirates in the summer, he has repaid Mikel Arteta’s faith with 11 goals.

Yesterday he operated the centre-forward role and was in the right place at the right time to head home a Nicolas Pepe cross late on.

The £180,000-a-week star hasn’t always been consistent but he has produced the good for the club this season.

Chambers was excellent at right-back during the contest, whilst Odegaard continued his recent good form in the No.10 role.

The challenge for Arsenal remains the same as it has been since Arteta checked in at the Emirates Stadium.

If they are to challenge for the really big honours and reclaim a top-four finish, they simply have to find a level of consistency.

This season won’t be the season they regain their place at European football’s top table but there is still a lot to play for.

If Arteta can raid the transfer market in the summer and garner some consistency, the Gunners can return to former glories in the coming years.
