Alan Shearer has raved about Arsenal star Ben White after his performance in Sunday’s win over Watford.

The Gunners won 1-0 against the Hornets, with Emile Smith Rowe finally ending Watford’s resolve.

Arsenal have turned a corner in recent weeks. Mikel Arteta’s men are unbeaten in 10 games in all competitions and are fifth in the league.

White was a £50 million signing from Brighton in the summer. He has been largely impressive, despite a somewhat shaky start.

He looks like the sort of defender that Arsenal have been lacking in recent seasons and at 24 he has bags of potential.

Shearer was impressed with the youngster at the weekend and named White in his Premier League Team of the Week.

He commented: “White was commanding in defence, building play from the back and not giving the Watford attack much of a sniff. His mazy run was also key to Emile Smith Rowe’s goal that sealed the win.”

Arsenal are next in action when they face Liverpool at Anfield after the international break.

That will provide the Gunners with a real acid test and it’ll be a strong indication of what they can achieve this season.

Talent: White is set for Arsenal stardom

Eyebrows were raised when the Gunners forked out £50 million for the centre-back.

He was with England during Euro 2020 and clearly, that experience has done his confidence the world of good.

Arsenal badly needed a defender and White looks tailor-made for how Arteta likes to play.

White really started to showcase his talent during a loan spell with Leeds during the 2019/20 campaign.

That prompted Graham Potter to make him a mainstay in the Brighton team last season.

He thrived under that show of faith and Arsenal nipped in to sign him in the summer.

Now, he’s repaying Arsenal and the faith they showed him in during the summer.

White looks destined for good things and he could still improve even further yet.
