Former Newcastle and England striker, Alan Shearer, believes that Tottenham need to show Harry Kane they mean business in order to keep him this summer.

Kane’s future is once again coming under the microscope with a number of clubs said to be monitoring his situation once again. It comes just eight months or so after Manchester City made a serious attempt to land Kane.

The Tottenham superstar scored once again for England at the weekend to continue his impressive run of form. But according to Shearer, Tottenham need to match Kane’s ambition if they are to keep hold of their star man.

“What if you mention recruitment but he has to go to the club, if not now, certainly within the next month or two. He’s got to find out what their ambitions are this summer,” Shearer said on the BBC Top Ten’s podcast.

“One, can they keep hold of Conte, because if they can it means they’re going to spend a few quid, as he’s not going to hang around I don’t think, unless they give him a right few quid. And if he gets the right answers then, yeah, he perhaps might stay. But if Conte is going to leave then he’s leaving for a reason, they’re not going to match his ambitions and Kane then has to leave, I think.”

Kane has certainly impressed this term again. Indeed, new teammate Rodrigo Bentancur has already called his striker ‘incredible’ after just a few months of being around him.

TBR’s View: Tottenham Stance And Conte Key For Kane Now

Kane is clearly enjoying his time under Conte so Shearer makes a great point about the Italian being key here. But it will take more than just Conte, especially if Spurs miss out on the top four.

The striker is in danger of going through his career and not having the trophies to match his immense talent. Of course, he’ll probably end up being the Premier League’s top goalscorer. However, Kane clearly wants to win things.

Ultimately, you feel there’s another big summer ahead here for Kane and Spurs. Daniel Levy, you’d imagine, will be once again a key figure.
