In reaction to Liverpool’s move to sign Alexander Isak, Newcastle United are chasing RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
Earlier in the summer, before Arsenal bought Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, the Gunners were interested in signing Benjamin Sesko themselves.
However, TBR Football recently revealed that Eddie Howe was a big fan of Sesko, and it therefore makes sense that he might come in to replace Isak.
Unfortunately for Newcastle, RB Leipzig are demanding big money for Sesko, which was part of the reason why Arsenal backed away from a deal.
But if Newcastle do ultimately match the Slovenian’s price tag, then he could be St James’ Park’s new number nine to get behind.
Alan Shearer gives his Yoane Wissa and Benjamin Sesko verdicts
That being said, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has now given his thoughts on the club’s interest in Sesko, as well as Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.
Shearer was speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast and stated that he would be happy if the pair both arrived on Tyneside, even if he did have some reservations about Sesko.

He explained: “If they can get Wissa in, if they can get Sesko in, then that will ultimately be decent business I think.
“You know he (Wissa) can do it in the Premier League, which adds up to a lot. And on the other one, Sesko, I know he’s a lot younger, and it would be more of a gamble on him because you’re going to have to pay a decent size fee for him.
“I saw him two or three times in the Champions League last season, and there’s definitely room for improvement.
“Yes, there’s certainly talent there, but there’s a lot of improvement that can be made, and you bring in someone who’s unknown into the Premier League, and that’s always going to be a bit of a risk.”
Benjamin Sesko’s arrival might keep Bruno Guimaraes happy at Newcastle
Amid talk of Isak leaving, there might be some concern at Newcastle in regards to how other star players like Bruno Guimaraes feel about the club’s trajectory.
After returning to the Champions League for next season, this summer was meant to be one of ambition and big spending.
But despite signing Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest, it’s otherwise been a tale of disappointment and frustration at St James’ Park.
Newcastle have missed out on several top targets and the likes of Guimaraes would be forgiven for worrying about the club’s execution, if not ambition.
That being said, Mikel Arteta really wanted to buy Sesko this summer, perhaps ahead of Gyokeres, who is now an Arsenal player.
And if Newcastle finance a deal for Sesko, ignoring what might be an inflated valuation, it would prove that they still have rich ambitions to compete among Europe’s elite.
Sesko has Isak and Erling Haaland type potential, and he might be the perfect solution for Howe.
