Alan Shearer has told the Premier League website that Aaron Ramsdale produced potentially the save of the season as he named the Arsenal goalkeeper in his Team of the Week.

Ramsdale continues to emphatically silence those who mocked the Gunners for wanting the Englishman in the summer.

He has been outstanding since coming into the side. And he produced arguably his best display yet for Arsenal in their latest win.

Mikel Arteta’s men beat Leicester City 2-0 at the King Power Stadium on Saturday. But they only kept a clean sheet after the 23-year-old produced a number of world-class saves.

The best unquestionably came when he clawed James Maddison’s free-kick away. It did appear that Maddison was getting ready to sprint away and celebrate before the former Sheffield United man got across and kept it out.

Unsurprisingly, Shearer included the youngster in his Team of the Week. And he suggested that his rivals will have to produce something special to better his stop from Maddison.

“Ramsdale made what could well be the save of the season, as well as several other great stops in Arsenal’s 2-0 win at Leicester City. His distribution was impressive too,” he told the Premier League website.

Even Arteta could not have seen Ramsdale hitting these heights for Arsenal this soon

One of the reasons Arsenal were ridiculed for targeting Ramsdale was that the move seemed unnecessary.

The Gunners appeared to have all sorts of problems in the summer. So spending a considerable sum on a backup goalkeeper was difficult to understand.

Arteta clearly felt that Ramsdale had the potential to take Bernd Leno’s spot. But even he could not have imagined just how soon he would cement himself as number one.

He has been better than anyone could have imagined. His challenge now is to maintain this current form.
