Arsenal consolidated their place at the top of the Premier League table with a 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The Gunners went four points clear at the summit and earned local bragging rights in the process with a solid triumph over ten-man Spurs.

Arsenal opened the scoring at the Emirates Stadium in the 20th minute through Thomas Partey.

The Ghana international let rip with a superb effort from Ben White’s layoff, which found the top corner of the net.

Tottenham were then given the chance to equalise from the spot on the half-hour mark.

Xhaka’s botched clearance enabled Richarlison to latch on to Son Heung-min’s pass.

Gabriel Magalhaes then went in with an ill-timed lunge, prompting the referee to point to the spot.

And Harry Kane made no mistake, hammering the ball down the middle for his seventh North London derby goal.

In addition, the spot kick was Kane’s 100th Premier League away goal, the first player in PL history to hit the milestone.

However, Arsenal edged back in front early in the second half, making it 2-1 in the 49th minute.

Hugo Lloris spilled a Bukayo Saka effort and Cristian Romero failed to deal with the loose ball.

This allowed Gabriel Jesus to prod the ball over the line.

Tottenham’s comeback mission then became much harder after the hour.

Emerson Royal ‘s sending-off for his wild lunge at Martinelli left Spurs with a mountain to climb.

And Arsenal duly made it three in the 67th minute through Granit Xhaka.

He wrong-footed Eric Dier from Gabriel Martinelli’s flick and rifled a low effort beyond Lloris to make it 3-1.

It was a superb display from Arsenal, and Gunners legend Ian Wright absolutely loved what he saw.

On Twitter, Alan Shearer shared footage of Wright celebrating Xhaka’s crucial goal.

Wright’s reaction will have been every Arsenal fan after Xhaka’s goal, and again at full time.

Credit to the players, Mikel Arteta and Edu for what they’ve put together to get to where they are.

Obviously it’s a long season, but Arsenal are certainly on the right track.
