Alan Shearer has selected three Everton stars in his latest team of the week, following the Toffees’ impressive win over Liverpool last weekend.
Everton ran out comfortable winners at Anfield in the end. Goals from Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson were enough to see Carlo Ancelotti’s men over the line in what was a defensive masterclass with a smattering of attacking flair thrown in.
And that defensive masterclass was what seemed to impress Shearer. Picking his TOTW for PremierLeague.com, the MOTD pundit went with Ben Godfrey, Jordan Pickford, and the excellent Michael Keane as his three Everton choices.
“Pulled off some crucial saves in a long-awaited derby win,” Shearer said on Pickford.
For Keane, Shearer admitted he “excelled at the heart of a three-man central defence”, while Godfrey also drew big praise from him.
“Gave an outstanding performance to keep the champions at bay,” Shearer added on the former Norwich man.
Everton and West Ham were the two dominant teams in this week’s selection by Shearer. Seven players of the XI came from either club, with Leeds’ Patrick Bamford and Raphinha joining Man City star Joao Cancelo in the other slots.

Everton fully deserved that win at the weekend and rightfully walked away with all three points against Liverpool.
For the likes of Godfrey and Keane, it showed they can do it on the very biggest stages. Pickford, meanwhile, seems to have risen to the challenge of Robin Olsen and is now back to somewhere near his best.
Everton could well land a European place if they carry on, while the Champions League is still very much in sight as well.
