Arsenal have now leapfrogged Liverpool in the Premier League table heading into the international break.
Fortunately for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal, Arne Slot’s Liverpool side have now finally begun to drop points.
Prior to back-to-back defeats against Crystal Palace and Chelsea, Liverpool had continued their near flawless record from last season.
Back in the summer, nearly all pundits and fans were predicting Liverpool to retain their title, after all, the Reds had just signed Florian Wirtz and a deal for Alexander Isak was also in the pipeline.
But fast forward to now and Slot has selection issues at Liverpool – it’s all not quite gelling together just yet at Anfield.

Alan Shearer says if he thinks Arsenal or Liverpool will win the Premier League
That being said, Alan Shearer has now readdressed his summer prediction that Liverpool would pip Arsenal and Manchester City to the title.
Speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast alongside Gary Lineker and Micah Richards, Shearer was asked if he thought Arsenal were now favourites instead.
Harping back to the summer, Lineker said, ‘we all tipped Liverpool’, but the pundit now wanted to know if any of his colleagues would have a change of heart with Arsenal one point ahead.

But even with Arsenal looking like a slightly more formidable force right now, Shearer wanted to stick to his guns – he was still backing Liverpool.
In reply to Lineker’s question, Shearer simply said: “I’m not going to change my mind as yet, Gaz. I might do after a dozen games, but I’ve been mightily impressed with Arsenal.”
And as stated, Arsenal are only one point ahead of Liverpool right now, even though Slot’s side are experiencing something of a slump.
Liverpool will still be title-favourites if Alexander Isak gets firing
After Saturday’s defeat against Chelsea, Gary Neville questioned Conor Bradley’s performance – another Liverpool player who’s struggling right now.
And in contrast to Arsenal’s defence, Liverpool’s backline are struggling to keep their opposition out.
But if Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak can gel and find form in the same team, it might still prove impossible for Arsenal to keep pace.
Viktor Gyokeres is impressing at Arsenal – Arteta has repeatedly said very kind words about his new starting striker.
But the Swede might ultimately struggle to match his compatriot Isak once he does settle at Liverpool.
Either way, it’s going to be a fascinating title-race, and in terms of the games to come after the international break, things are looking slightly more difficult for Liverpool right now.
