West Bromwich Albion midfielder Matheus Pereira has been named in Alan Shearer’s latest Premier League Team of the Week.

The 24-year-old has been superb for the Baggies this season, registering seven goals and five assists from 26 league appearances.

Pereira was in especially inspired form against Chelsea on Saturday, his two goals and two assists helping Sam Allardyce’s side record a 5-2 away win.

The Brazilian also registered six shots, made three key passes and completed two dribbles, earning himself a perfect 10 on Whoscored.

Unsurprisingly, Pereira made the cut for Shearer’s Team of the Week, alongside teammate Callum Robinson, while Allardyce was the Manager of the Week.

“A brilliant all-round display with two goals and two assists,” wrote Shearer. “If he can keep this up, West Brom can keep believing.”

On Robinson, the Premier League legend wrote: “He took his goals brilliantly. The control on the volley for the first one was particularly impressive.”

And on Allardyce, Shearer wrote: “He oversaw a surprising but sensational win at Chelsea – one that had style as well as substance.”

West Brom may have struggled this season but a performance and result like the one at the weekend show there’s plenty of fight in the Baggies.

Nine points from safety with 24 points left to play for – it’s a tough ask, but as Shearer said, a player like Pereira could certainly inspire Albion to do their best in pursuit of survival.
