Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon was given a “torrid time” during Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Newcastle, according to Alan Shearer.
Jose Mourinho’s charges were hoping to make it two wins in a row on Sunday after beating Aston Villa before the international break.
However, Tottenham could only manage to pick up a point at St James’ Park as Newcastle opened the scoring and then netted late on to cancel out Harry Kane’s brace.

Mourinho criticised his defence following the game, saying “we created some instability with so many individual defensive mistakes that we made”.
Reguilon was declared fit enough to start against the Magpies but was sloppy defensively, failing to win his header at the back post that saw Joe Willock level things up late on.
While Shearer focused on how good Newcastle were, he acknowledged that Spurs struggled amid their defensive issues.
“It was a much more ambitious approach in every way and it allowed them to create lots of chances,” he told BBC Sport.
“They had more shots, 17, from inside the opposition box than they have managed in any other Premier League game this season.
“The fact Tottenham were so bad defensively obviously helped too – I said to Ian Wright before the game that I did not have great confidence in the Spurs back four and that Newcastle could cause them problems, and they did.
“It wasn’t just the goalscorers who stood out, either. Jacob Murphy was excellent down the right-hand side and gave Sergio Reguilon a torrid time throughout, while Allan Saint-Maximin showed great energy on his return from injury.”

Spurs had a great chance to break into the Premier League’s top four after their rivals dropped points but they sadly fell short against a struggling side.
Reguilon was far from his best on Sunday – perhaps he was rushed back too soon after Ben Davies was sidelined.
