Alan Shearer says Manchester City have a top talent who makes 'everyone around him better'
Manchester City centre-back Ruben Dias has been named in Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Season.
The 24-year-old joined Pep Guardiola’s side last September from Benfica in a reported £65million deal.
Dias has made 49 appearances for City and has proven nothing short of revolutionary at the back.
He has already lifted the League Cup and the Premier League title, and is one game away from winning the Champions League.
Dias’ efforts have led to him winning City’s Player of the Season award and the Football Writers Association’s Footballer of the Year accolade.
He is the first defender to win the FWA FOTY award since Steve Nicol in 1989.
Dias is also just the third player to win it in his first season in England, following Jurgen Klinsmann (1995) and Gianfranco Zola (1997).
Now, Shearer has named the Portugal international in his Team of the Season.
“Has been a game-changer for City,” wrote the Premier League legend.
“He’s made everyone around him better and that’s exactly what was needed.”
City have struck gold with Dias, a player who is already one of the Premier League’s top defenders, very much on par with the amazing Virgil van Dijk.
And the fact he’s only just turned 24 and has plenty of years ahead of him, he’s got the potential to become the very best centre-back in the world.
