Liverpool, for a long time, were known as ‘mentality monsters’ under Jurgen Klopp.

Indeed, Jurgen Klopp often used to praise his team for their grit and determination in big moments, and, ultimately, that led to a lot of success.

Now, under Arne Slot, that mentality monsters moniker has continued as Liverpool won the league last season and have started this campaign off with three wins and three late victories.

Speaking to Sport Bible, Alan Shearer has been tasked with building a so-called perfect footballer made up of a number of attributes.

When it came to mentality, it’s no surprise to hear that Shearer picked a Liverpool player.

Alan Shearer hails Mohamed Salah’s mentality

Shearer was asked to build his perfect player.

When it came to mentality, the pundit didn’t take long to think as he chose Mohamed Salah for his incredible approach to the game.

Shearer says that Salah is a player who isn’t afraid to take risks and isn’t afraid to miss, claiming that he loves that side of the Egyptian’s game.

“Mentality, Mo Salah, he just constantly gets in there. He’s not afraid to shoot when he should perhaps pass it, and he’s not afraid to miss, I love that mentality,” Shearer said.

Can Mohamed Salah catch Alan Shearer’s record?

Shearer says he loves Salah’s mentality, and he’s not the first person to hail Salah’s mental fortitude.

Indeed, it’s often been noted how Salah works incredibly hard in the gym at Liverpool, and that plays into the Egyptian’s incredible longevity.

At the age of 33, Salah has been in Ballon d’Or winning form over the past 12 months, and he’s not slowing down.

So, could Salah catch Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record in the Premier League?

Salah currently has 187 Premier League goals to his name, meaning he needs just 73 more to catch Shearer’s tally of 260.

If Salah continues scoring at the rate he has over the past 12 months, he could potentially break that record in three years’ time.

Due to his age, that is unlikely, but don’t be shocked if the £34m man does create Premier League history and smashes Shearer’s record.
