Alan Shearer has told the Premier League website that Bruno Guimaraes produced an exquisite performance in Newcastle United’s opening day win over Nottingham Forest at St James’ Park.
The Magpies have made a promising start to the campaign. Goals from Fabian Schar and Callum Wilson gave Newcastle a 2-0 victory over Steve Cooper’s men.

Eddie Howe’s side dominated the game. And it appears that they are ready to take another step forward this coming season. And a key player ready to drive that progress is Guimaraes.
The 24-year-old made a phenomenal start to life on Tyneside during the second-half of last season. And it seems that he is ready to pick up where he left off.

No player made a greater number of key passes than the Brazilian, according to Whoscored. Meanwhile, he led the way for successful dribbles. And he also made three successful tackles.
It highlighted that Bruno is going to be a big player for Newcastle. And Shearer has now named him in his Team of the Week following his display against Forest.
“The Brazilian ran the midfield and produced some exquisite passing in a comfortable Newcastle win,” he told the Premier League website.
Bruno Guimaraes exquisite in Newcastle win
Newcastle have created a pathway for themselves to push towards the heavyweights in the Premier League. They have not done it by throwing an endless amount of money at the squad.
Instead, they have now made a raft of smart signings and accepted that they need to build gradually. The acquisitions of Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn and Nick Pope are incredibly smart.
But bringing in a couple of potential superstars has also been hugely important. Landing Sven Botman is a statement of intent.
And if he can prove to be anything like as impressive as Guimaraes has been, Newcastle could have an amazing season in front of them.
