Alan Shearer says Brendan Rodgers should be rubbing his hands together

Alan Shearer feels that Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has a huge opportunity to guide his club into the Champions League spots this season.

As per the BBC, Shearer feels that the flaws of four of the other top six clubs offers the Foxes a huge chance to get into Europe’s premier club competition for the first time since they won the league in 2016.

He said: “If I was Brendan Rodgers I would be rubbing my hands together and thinking what a brilliant opportunity I have got this season. Liverpool and Manchester City are miles ahead, the other teams in the chasing pack have all got major issues.

“The Foxes are in third and they should be seriously thinking they can stay there. Rodgers targeted the top six over the summer and the top four is a real possibility for them. They should not be scared of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United or Tottenham.”

TBR’s View – Tottenham win should get Leicester over their blues against top six

So far this season, Leicester had dominated matches away from home against Chelsea and Manchester United, but had just one goal and one point to show for it.

That perhaps led to a fear that they could not quite get over the line against top six sides, but the comeback victory over Tottenham should ease those worries.

As Shearer says, there’s not much to fear from the traditional chasing pack, it’s just a case of whether Leicester can get the right level of consistency to break into Europe.
