Alan Shearer says 26-year-old player could prove a real ‘bargain’ for West Ham

Alan Shearer has now been praising a West Ham United player after his excellent performance on the weekend.

It’s all been a bit doom and gloom for David Moyes and his side since the turn of the year, especially following the worrying loss to Arsenal.

However, as should be expected of a Moyes led team, they have bounced back, and consecutive wins against Brentford and Everton have turned the tide.

The likes of Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta have once again proved incredibly exciting in those games, with the Brazilian’s importance becoming clearer with every passing game.

But it was a different player who Shearer was left praising in his ‘Team of the Week’.

And as well as including Alphonse Areola, who can’t move for commendation right now, Alan Shearer was also incredibly impressed with West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez.

The Mexican international joined West Ham after a fairly long ‘will he, won’t he’ in the summer, and the club certainly won’t regret the decision now.

It was always going to be an incredibly tough task to replace Declan Rice in the pivot, but Alvarez has stood up to the task so well.

Alan Shearer says West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez looks like a bargain

Although Alvarez did cost around £35m in the summer, that could eventually look like something of a coup for West Ham, as Shearer agreed.

He said: “A really impressive performance, capped off by a deserved late goal. He could prove to be a bargain.”

And at 26-years-old, the Mexican could still have a considerable amount of potential to fulfil in East London.

The composure Alvarez showed in front of goal was particularly impressive as well, finishing a lot better than some of the club’s strikers have managed of late.

And of course, that does seem to be the next piece of the puzzle for West Ham, finding a player who can put goals away like Alan Shearer.

Jarrod Bowen has been doing a remarkable job, but he will often be needed out wide in his strongest position.

All that being said, Bowen has been praising a player who looks as if he’s beginning to take more responsibility towards contributing goals and assists.
