Alan Shearer has lauded Douglas Luiz’s performances for Aston Villa this season, with the midfielder becoming a superstar under Unai Emery.

The Brazilian international has enjoyed his best year yet in the Premier League at Villa Park, with Luiz playing a key role in Villa’s unlikely Premier League title charge this season.

Now reportedly wanted by the likes of Arsenal, Luiz’s stock has risen by some margin, with the midfielder looking better and better with each passing game under Emery.

And writing for the Premier League’s official website, Shearer has named Luiz in his Team of the Season so far, with Villa teammate Ollie Watkins also making the XI.

Indeed, the pair have been influential to Villa’s success this season, yet Luiz’s performances, in particular, have been fantastic to watch for neutral supporters and pundits.

Shearer said about Luiz: “A brilliant midfielder who has been pivotal to Aston Villa’s success this season, with his goals at home particularly invaluable.”

Signed from Manchester City for £15m, few Villa fans would have predicted the player Luiz would turn out to be after a few years of Premier League football.

Yet now it’s hard to see the Brazilian international as anything but a midfield superstar, with Villa’s Premier League success now hinging on Luiz’s fitness and form.

The 25-year-old has risen his game to unimaginable heights this season under Emery, and Villa fans should be excited for what’s coming next for Luiz in this Villians squad.
