Curtis Jones spoke of his frustration at a lack of game time after scoring a stunning winner for Liverpool in Sunday’s FA Cup third-round win over Everton – and Alan Shearer has heaped praise on the teenager for his attitude in his Sun column.

Jones, 18, curled in a stunning effort from 20 yards out – leaving Jordan Pickford with no chance. It saw a youthful Liverpool side missing a whole host of first-team stars manage to beat Merseyside rivals Everton, who fielded their best eleven.

After the match, Jones explained his frustration at a lack of game time – after what was just his fifth senior outing: “It’s been frustrating to be on the bench then getting a bit of a taste for it, then on the bench again,” as quoted by The Mail.

England legend Shearer reacted to Jones’ post-match comments by stating that he was a big fan of the teenager becomnig frsutrated at a lack of game time in a side that boast probably the best front three in world football.

“Another great young talent announced himself in the shape of  Curtis Jones,” Shearer said. “His winner was an absolute cracker and I loved that he complained he hadn’t been getting enough chances at a club which is beating everyone in its path.

“He’s only 18 yet he knows what he wants and is determined to get it. Patience does not appear to be a virtue in football these days. Young players are hungry for first-team action and want it now.”

TBR’s view – Jones’ frustration will see him take Liverpool chance

In the five games Jones has played, he has shown just why he is one of Liveprool’s best young talents to come through the academy in recent years. He boasts flair, goals, creativity, tricks, strength and a huge aspect of being Liverpool-born.

His frustration at failing to be given more than five games – at this very early stage of his career – is an excellent attitude to have and it will only serve the England youth international well going forward. Indeed, he is likely to get more games this season.
