Newcastle United earned a much-needed victory in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime, which promoted an excited response from club legend Alan Shearer on social media.

The Magpies secured an impressive 2-0 away win at Goodison Park to beat Everton.

After holding their own against Everton throughout the match, Newcastle finally made the breakthrough with Callum Wilson’s goal in the 73rd minute.

The English centre-forward added a second in stoppage time to make sure of the three points and it was a result that Steve Bruce’s men desperately required after zero wins in their previous nine league games.

Shearer reacted on Twitter to the Newcastle win, giving a special mention to striker Wilson.

TBR’s View:

If Wilson is on top of his game, then Newcastle are always capable of snatching something and he’s now scored 10 league goals this season.

He’s been a massive addition to the squad at St James’ Park and his all-round game against Everton was immense to go with his brace.

But he had the entire team playing well behind him on Merseyside and it’s the kind of performance that supporters can get excited about, as they showed some aggressiveness and positivity unlike in some recent games.

Newcastle have a nine-point cushion over the relegation places and need to try take some momentum going forward to pull even further clear.
