Alan Shearer has heaped praise on Tottenham star Lucas Moura for his performance in the weekend win over Aston Villa, naming him in his Team of the Week.
The former England striker was massively impressed with the Brazilian who helped Spurs end a bad week with a 2-0 win at Villa Park.
Moura claimed an assist for Carlos Vinicius’ opening goal and was largely impressive throughout.
The Villa defence had no response to his brilliance and afterwards, Shearer claimed he enjoyed the international’s performance.
He told the Premier League’s official website: “The Brazilian was instrumental in a much-needed win for Spurs, getting an assist and causing all sorts of problems for the Villa backline.”
Moura has been forced to wait patiently for a chance in the Tottenham team under Jose Mourinho.
Now, he’s a regular in the side and he’s clearly thriving with regular football for the club.
During 2020/21 he has scored nine goals and registered seven assists, playing in a number of positions in the process.
Tottenham ended a turbulent week with a good win over the Villans.
Last week saw them lose North London bragging rights in defeat to Arsenal and then suffer an embarrassing Europa League exit at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb.
Spurs held a 2-0 lead from the first leg in London but were beaten 3-0 by the Croatians to go crashing out.
All is not lost for Tottenham though.
With the likes of Moura in the mood, the club can go on a little run and try and gatecrash the top-four between now and the end of the season.
It’ll take a big effort, but Tottenham do have the players capable of such brilliance within their senior ranks.
