Alan Shearer blown away by Arsenal player with ‘pace to burn’ and ‘brilliant movement’

Premier League legend Alan Shearer has praised Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, naming him in his Premier League Team of the Season.

The Gabon international is arguably Arsenal’s most important player, having scored 20 goals in all competitions this season and taking over the Gunners team captaincy.

Since his £56million move to the Emirates Stadium in January 2018, Aubameyang has registered 61 goals and 13 assists for Arsenal in all competitions.

The 30-year-old’s future is uncertain, given his contract expires next summer, and if he doesn’t pen new terms, the Gunners will have to decide whether to cash in on him or let his contract run down.

Nonetheless, the plaudits keep heading Aubameyang’s way, with Shearer the latest to recognise him for his heroics this season.

“With 17 Premier League goals, Aubameyang is just two behind top scorer Leicester’s Jamie Vardy as he targets a second successive Golden Boot,” Shearer wrote on the Premier League website.

“The Gabon striker has pace to burn, brilliant movement and has scored consistently despite often being deployed out on the left.”

Aubameyang has been nothing short of sensational during his time at Arsenal and he has worked miracles this season to keep the Gunners’ hopes a European place intact, just about.

However, his contract expires at the end of the 2020-21 season and contract talks between the striker and the Emirates Stadium outfit have so far failed to provide a breakthrough.

With potentially one last big contract in him, it remains to be seen whether Aubameyang will stay put at Arsenal – either on a new deal or until his contract expires – or be sold in the summer.

But if he does leave, it’ll be a sad day for the Gunners, given just how superb he is and how many plaudits keep coming his way.
