Alan Shearer has claimed in his Premier League Team of the Week that Mikel Arteta has rejuvenated Arsenal defender Calum Chambers after his sparkling performance during his side’s comeback against West Ham on Sunday afternoon.
Chambers, 26, has returned from an anterior cruciate ligament injury and after three appearances with the Under-23 side, the England international is now back in the Gunners side. He has started two of the last three Premier League matches.
He also made appearances in the Europa League group stage and then as a substitute against Benfica and Olympiacos. The ex-Southampton man enjoyed his best performance since his return, proving effective going forward and in defence on Sunday.
Arsenal came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 at the London Stadium and Shearer included Chambers in his TOTW, praising the Gunners defender – and claiming that Arteta has “rejuvenated” the player, who now has 107 Gunners outings to his name.
“Claimed an assist and forced an own goal with two superb right-wing crosses. The defender has been rejuvenated by Mikel Arteta,” Shearer told the Premier League’s website, picking Chambers in a side that also included Martin Odegaard.

TBR’s view – Chambers form could spell the end of a teammate
With Cedric Soares also pretty new into his Arsenal spell and £50k a week (Spotrac) Chambers showing form on the right side of the defence – surely it could see Hector Bellerin leave the club, with a return to Barcelona being touted for the Spain ace.
Bellerin, who joined Arsenal from Barcelona’s esteemed La Masia academy, has failed to replicate his best form under Mikel Arteta. It is widely believed that if a decent offer is received he will go, and Chambers’ form will see him edge closer to an exit.
