Arsenal have put together a squad full of brilliant players in recent years, which has brought the club back to the upper levels of the European game.

Just a few years ago, the Gunners weren’t a patch on the iconic team Arsene Wenger assembled in his first eight or so years at Highbury.

Now, Arsenal are challenging for the Premier League title once again, and reached the Champions League quarter-finals in their return to the competition last year.

Meanwhile, the Gunners’ academy continues to produce exciting talents who are expected to have outstanding futures in the game.

The biggest Hale End success story in recent years is, without a doubt, Bukayo Saka.

The 22-year-old has become one of the Premier League’s best players, having already clocked up 227 appearances for Arsenal and 40 caps for England.

Saka has hit the ground running for the Gunners this season, registering a goal and an assist in the 2-0 win over Wolves on the opening day.

Alan Shearer has now predicted how many goals he feels the Hale End graduate will score in red and white this season.

Alan Shearer says Arsenal star Bukayo Saka could reach 20 Premier League goals this season

Shearer is back with his Premier League Team of the Week, with Saka making the cut in his selection.

“A goal and an assist. Outstanding for Arsenal,” he wrote on the Premier League website.

“Could reach 20 Premier League goals this season.”

Saka was the only Gunners player to make the cut, with players from Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Brighton also involved.

Shearer also sung Saka’s praises earlier this week, describing him as “outstanding” and an “amazing player” on The Rest is Football.

How many goals has Saka scored per season since Arsenal first-team breakthrough?

Should Saka reach 20 Premier League goals this season, it would be the first time in his career that he would achieve this feat.

The Arsenal star’s goal tally per season has been increasing with each passing campaign.

Last season, Saka scored 15 league goals and five Champions League goals for a tally of 20 in all competitions. He also registered 14 assists.

In 2022/23, Saka registered 14 goals and 11 assists in the league, whilst also getting on the scoresheet once in the Europa League.

Going back to 2021/22, Saka grabbed 11 goals and seven assists in the league, whilst also netting once in the League Cup.

In 2020/21, Saka registered seven goals and nine assists in all competitions, of which five and three came in the league.

And back in 2019/20, the Arsenal ace grabbed four goals and 12 assists in all competitions, of which one and five came in the top flight.
