‘Superb’: Alan Shearer says Leeds had a player who made all the difference in the second half at Wolves

The dust has settled now on Leeds and their fantastic comeback win at Wolves on Friday night but it’s easy to forget just how good they were in that second half.

A memorable comeback win ensured it was two late winners in a week for Jesse Marsch’s men, who had Luke Ayling to thank this time for snatching three points at Molineux. Other goals from Jack Harrison and Rodrigo had brought the game level, but it was Ayling’s winner which really brought the house down.

And for his efforts, Ayling has been included in the Premier League team of the week selected by Alan Shearer, with the former England skipper stating just how important Ayling was to the Leeds cause.

“Superb in the second-half revival and crowned display with the winner,” Shearer said of Ayling, who joined a back four for Ben White, Gabriel, and Timothy Castagne in Shearer’s selections.

Certainly, Ayling epitomised everything Leeds are going to need in the run-in. His energy was there as it has been so often, and the goal was just the icing on the cake really.

TBR’s View: Luke Ayling Sums Leeds Up

When you look at Premier League right-backs, Luke Ayling probably isn’t the most naturally gifted of them all.

He’s not an Alexander-Arnold or Reece James, nor is he a Joao Cancelo or Matty Cash, even. But what Ayling is, is full-blooded, commitment, and a will to win that money can’t often buy.

Nobody deserved that winning goal on Friday more than Ayling and Leeds will be hoping the last seven days can provide a springboard for even better things in the weeks to come.
