Tottenham will be in the Champions League yet again after sealing a fourth place finish with a 2-2 draw against Everton yesterday.
Mauricio Pochettino might perhaps be a shade disappointed to fall below a disjointed Chelsea side, especially after being closer to the title chasers than the top four race at one stage, but a seat at Europe’s top table is a tough prize to earn.
Alan Shearer, on Match of the Day, 12/05, 11:40pm, was full of praise for the Argentine for guiding his injury-hit charges to that accolade again, saying: “What a job Pochettino is doing at Tottenham – phenomenal.
“When you consider they haven’t signed anyone for 18 months, top four finish again, Champions League final – whatever happens in that Champions League final, it’s still been a phenomenal season to get them where they are. Unbelievable.”

Shearer is right to praise Pochettino – for the way he has kept positive and kept believing throughout the season and for the tactical nous he has shown when setting his side up without so many options at times.
He has assembled a brilliant squad and it is his drive that keeps them moving forward in the absence of investment – as well as keeping players at the club who could earn more money elsewhere.
The Argentine could stake a claim for manager of the season if he wins the Champions League – and it’s tough to see how Spurs would be lining up in Madrid next month were it not for Pochettino.
