Nottingham Forest battered Newcastle United today to give themselves breathing space at the bottom of the Premier League table.
A huge performance from Chris Wood, who netted a hat-trick, ensured the Reds went back down to the City Ground with a big three points and a first for Nuno Santo since taking charge.
For Newcastle, it was yet another disappointing performance for Eddie Howe’s side. It was yet another bad day in what has been a dismal run really in December, with defeat to Luton and also in Europe putting a dampener on their season.
And after seeing the performance, former Newcastle man and club legend Alan Shearer needed just four words to sum up the game.
Newcastle took the lead in the game through an Alex Isak penalty but allowed Forest back into the game and once they’d scored the equaliser, Santo’s side never looked back.
For Shearer, this is the latest in what is a growing line of poor Newcastle results for him to assess.
Eddie Howe now under pressure at Newcastle
Yes, there is an injury crisis of sorts at Newcastle and yes, Howe has led them into the Champions League this season. But, football is about results and at the moment, he isn’t getting them enough.
The Newcastle owners are hugely ambitious and will see Howe as now being under a bit of pressure.
It’s the first time since he took over really and while most will say he’s bought himself time, the pressure is on to keep delivering European football at the club nowadays.
At the moment, it looks like the Mags are falling well off the pace and results like and against Luton will cause concern at boardroom level.
Howe, then, could well end up being the next manager to lose his job if he doesn’t manage to turn things around rather quickly.
