Aston Villa are in superb form at present and Ross Barkley has been one of the standout performers for Dean Smith’s side.

The 26-year-old joined the Villans on loan from Chelsea in September and has made two appearances for the West Midlands club, scoring in both.

After netting on his debut in the 7-2 thrashing of Liverpool, Barkley claimed a hugely important goal against Leicester at the weekend.

Villa were heading towards a goalless draw at the King Power but the England international found the breakthrough in the 91st minute, a deft bottom-corner finish.

Barkley made Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week for his weekend efforts, one of four Villa men to make the cut alongside Tyrone Mings, Jack Grealish and the manager.

“He has been given a new lease of life at Villa,” Shearer wrote of Barkley on the Premier League website.

“His winner was a trademark Barkley goal, with a driving run and superb strike from range.”

Although Barkley struggled initially against the Foxes, he improved as the game went on, making some great runs from deep, and was then the matchwinner.

The 6ft 1in ace definitely needed a fresh start and is now showing what he’s truly capable of, helping Villa to the upper echelons of the table in the process.
