Alan Shearer believes Tanguy Ndombele is one of the most-improved players at Spurs this season and has praised his maturity and confidence.

Speaking on the official Premier League YouTube channel, Shearer gave his thoughts on Ndombele, who has come into his own a bit this season after a disappointing start to life at Spurs.

Ndombele was given more chances by Jose Mourinho and was selected by Ryan Mason last night too as Spurs won 2-1 against Southampton.

And Shearer believes Ndombele is not far from being the finished article, as he praised his ability and attitude this season.

“His debut season didn’t live up to expectation, but this season he’s definitely improved and is a much more confident player,” Shearer said.

“What impresses me most is how he’s matured into his new role. He’s solid defensively, but is also good going forward. He can also pick out a pass as we saw with his assist for Son against Manchester City. He’s certainly given a better account this season but if he can improve his consistency, he should be a vital member of that squad for years to come.”

Ndombele has certainly been impressive at times. His close control provides a near weekly highlight reel for Spurs fans, as do his mazy dribbles in the middle of the park.

While the Frenchman has been excellent at times, just three Premier League goals is not good enough for someone of his quality.

Ndombele will probably be well aware of that to be honest. But he needs to start contributing that bit more and getting his name on the scoresheet more often.

His goal at Sheffield United showed how good he can be in front of goal, and he needs to do more of that next season.
