Former Newcastle and England striker, Alan Shearer, has lauded Declan Rice for his weekend performance for West Ham against Spurs.
The pundit had already sang Rice’s praises on MOTD following the game. But going further this week, Shearer has selected Rice, along with a few other Hammers stars, in his PremierLeague.com Team of the Week.
And offering a short but sharp explanation of his reasoning, Shearer labelled Rice as ‘relentless’ in his performance.
“Relentless. He made a couple of brilliant clearances when West Ham were under pressure,” Shearer commented.
Rice has certainly made a huge impression this season and has, in many ways, upped his game to a new level. His partnership in midfield with Thomas Soucek is second to none, and any talk of him moving to Chelsea seems to have stalled too.
West Ham themselves could very well qualify for Europe, meaning Rice may not have to seek that big-money move afterall.
TBR View: Declan Rice showing his quality and silencing the doubters
For whatever reason, Declan Rice has had to live with plenty of doubters and critics in recent seasons. But this year, there can’t be anyone out there who still thinks he is overrated?
Rice has been simply superb for West Ham and Shearer’s ‘relentless’ comment just about sums him up.
The Hammers have a real player on their hands with Rice. And even if he does eventually go, West Ham will be able to line their pockets with plenty of cash for the England man.
