Premier League record goalscorer, Alan Shearer, has selected Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in his team of the week this time out.
The Gabon striker was back to his blistering best at the weekend as the Gunners saw off Leeds United 4-2 in North London.
Aubameyang netted a first PL hat-trick to give his team the ideal platform to build on. And although Leeds fought their way back into the game, it was a good Arsenal performance led by their star man.
Shearer, then, selecting his PremierLeague.com team of the week, praised Aubameyang and had a short, sharp statement to justify his pick.
“He was magnificent as he scored his first Premier League hat-trick,” Shearer said, seemingly impressed by witnessing a fellow striker get back to his free-flowing best.
Aubameyang signed a big money contract in the summer but has struggled this season at times. However, his hat-trick should ensure he is back up and running in terms of goals, after dealing with a number of personal issues lately.
Shearer’s comments coincide with the opinion of Mikel Arteta, who branded his skipper ‘superb’ in the win.
TBR View: Aubameyang key for Arsenal and could spark late season surge
If Aubameyang is scoring goals then Arsenal have every reason to believe they can challenge for the European spots.
On his day, he’s one of the very best strikers in Europe. It was quite sad, then, to see him struggling so much in front of goal.
But last weekend showed Aubameyang is very much back in business. This, of course, is a huge positive for the Gunners.
