Alan Shearer has heaped praise on Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, after the star produced a brilliant performance against Everton at the weekend.
The 24-year-old ran the show against the Toffees, completing 78/84 of his passes for an accuracy of 93% and having 98 touches, the joint-most in the match with Luke Ayling (Sofascore).
Phillips also made a couple of tackles and interceptions apiece.
The star is certainly catching the eye for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, and today he came in for high praise from Match of the Day pundit Shearer, who has included him in his latest Premier League Team of the Week, along with his Whites teammate Raphinha.
He said of Phillips (official Premier League website): “A complete man-of-the-match performance, with his range of passing a standout feature.”
The star is enjoying a really good season so far, and more displays like the one against Everton could put him firmly into contention to start for England at next summer’s European Championships.
TBR’s View – Phillips continues to impress
The tenacious star has taken to the Premier League very impressively, and looks very much at home playing in the English top-flight.
He just needs to continue working away, and he’ll surely be on that plane next summer.
Perhaps if he plays well enough, he’ll be lining up just in front of the defence in that first game against Croatia – although Declan Rice may have something to say about it.
